In a small village nestled between two towering mountains, there lived a young man named Kelechi. He was known for his adventurous spirit, a stark contrast to the cautious and conservative nature of his fellow villagers. The people in the village lived simple lives, fearing to venture beyond their familiar surroundings, but Kelechi often dreamed of a world filled with opportunities beyond the mountains.
One fateful evening, an old traveler passed through the village, speaking of a hidden valley on the other side of the mountains, filled with golden treasures, fertile lands, and streams that sparkled like diamonds. The traveler, however, warned of the dangers of the journey—treacherous cliffs, wild beasts, and unpredictable weather. Most villagers dismissed the tale as a fantasy, but Kelechi’s heart burned with determination.
Despite the warnings and the ridicule of the villagers, Kelechi decided to embark on the perilous journey. He packed a small bag with essential supplies and set out at dawn. “You are a fool chasing a dream,” some mocked, while others shook their heads in pity. Yet, Kelechi remained resolute, believing that the reward was worth the risk.
The journey was as harrowing as the traveler had described. Kelechi climbed steep cliffs, crossed icy rivers, and endured the howling winds of the mountain passes. On the third day, he encountered a ferocious mountain lion. Trembling with fear, he gripped his wooden staff tightly and stood his ground, waving the stick and shouting loudly. The lion, startled by his boldness, retreated into the forest.
Exhausted but undeterred, Kelechi pressed on. Days turned into weeks, and just when his hope began to waver, he stumbled upon the hidden valley. The sight was more magnificent than he had ever imagined—lush green fields stretched as far as the eye could see, dotted with fruit trees and sparkling streams. In the heart of the valley lay a cave, and within it, piles of gold coins, gemstones, and treasures beyond his wildest dreams.
Kelechi didn’t take everything but gathered enough gold and resources to transform his village. He returned weeks later, to the astonishment of the villagers. The treasures he brought back were used to build schools, improve farming techniques, and create new opportunities for everyone. Those who once mocked him now hailed him as a hero.
Kelechi’s boldness had not only brought him fortune but had also changed the fate of his entire village. The tale of his courage spread far and wide, serving as a reminder that fortune indeed favours the bold. Those who dare to step out of their comfort zones and face challenges head-on often find rewards beyond their imagination.
ANOTHER NUMBER TWO
Ladies and gentlemen, honorable judges, and fellow debaters, I stand before you today to argue in favor of the motion that a physical library is more beneficial to students than an e-library.
First and foremost, physical libraries offer a tactile experience that is essential for learning. Students can browse through shelves, touch books, and flip through pages. This hands-on experience helps students to develop a deeper understanding of the material and retain information better. In contrast, e-libraries lack the tactile experience, and students are limited to reading on screens.
Furthermore, physical libraries provide students with access to rare and out-of-print materials that may not be available online. Many academic journals and books are not digitized, and students may miss out on valuable information if they rely solely on e-libraries. Physical libraries also provide students with access to special collections, archives, and other unique resources that are not available online.
Another significant advantage of physical libraries is that they provide students with a quiet and peaceful environment that is conducive to learning. Physical libraries are designed to minimize distractions, and students can focus on their studies without interruptions. In contrast, e-libraries can be accessed from anywhere, but students may be distracted by social media, email, and other online temptations.
In addition, physical libraries provide students with the opportunity to interact with librarians and other students. Librarians can provide guidance and support, helping students to navigate the vast array of resources available. Students can also collaborate with each other, working on projects and sharing ideas. Physical libraries foster a sense of community and belonging among students, which is essential for academic success.
Finally, physical libraries are an essential part of academic heritage. They provide a sense of tradition and continuity, linking students to the past and to the academic community. Physical libraries are also a symbol of academic excellence, and they play a vital role in promoting scholarship and research.
In conclusion, while e-libraries have their advantages, physical libraries offer a unique set of benefits that make them more beneficial to students. From providing a tactile experience to fostering a sense of community, physical libraries play a vital role in supporting academic success.
Therefore, I strongly argue in favor of the motion that a physical library is more beneficial to students than an e-library. Thank you.
NUMBER THREE
*The Dark Side of Social Media: How Addictive Lifestyle is Destroying Nigeria’s Youths*
In recent years, social media has become an integral part of our daily lives. Platforms like Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and WhatsApp have made it easier for people to connect with each other, share their experiences, and access information. However, excessive use of social media has become a major concern, particularly among Nigerian youths.
The addictive nature of social media is having a negative impact on the lives of many young Nigerians. Spending hours on social media can lead to social isolation, decreased attention span, and reduced face-to-face communication skills. Youths who spend too much time on social media are also more likely to experience depression, anxiety, and low self-esteem.
Furthermore, excessive social media use can affect academic performance. Youths who spend too much time on social media may find it difficult to concentrate on their studies, leading to poor grades and reduced opportunities for future success.
In addition, social media addiction can also lead to a decrease in physical activity. Youths who spend too much time on social media may be less likely to engage in outdoor activities, sports, or other physical exercises, leading to a range of health problems, including obesity, diabetes, and heart disease.
Another negative effect of social media addiction is the spread of false information and hate speech. Youths who spend too much time on social media may be exposed to misinformation, propaganda, and hate speech, which can lead to confusion, fear, and violence.
To address the negative effects of social media addiction, parents, educators, and policymakers must work together to create awareness about the dangers of excessive social media use. Youths must also be educated on how to use social media responsibly and safely.
In conclusion, the addictive nature of social media is having a negative impact on the lives of many young Nigerians. Excessive social media use can lead to social isolation, decreased attention span, reduced face-to-face communication skills, depression, anxiety, low self-esteem, poor academic performance, decreased physical activity, and the spread of false information and hate speech. It is time for us to take action to address the negative effects of social media addiction and ensure that our youths use social media responsibly and safely.
